Covid-19 is real and has led to the usage of masks in reducing its spread. However, these masks can be harsh on the skin especially for people with really sensitive skin. A lot of skin problems have increased due to mask usage. Here are some ways to prevent such. 1)Cleanse and moisturize your face daily It is important to make use of a mild cleanser and wash your face about twice daily. Avoid scrubbing or making use of sponge. Dry skin is a trigger so apply moisturizer to reduce the dryness. Select a moisturizer depending on your skin type. 2) Avoid make up when wearing a mask This is the period to try and avoid make up. It can clog up the pores underneath the mask and can lead to break out. If it is really necessary to wear try and use products labelled non-comendogenic. 3) Avoid trying new skincare products Masks can enhance skin sensitivity. Avoid trying new products like exfoilants, retinoids etc unless you have consulted with your dermatologist. 4) Use less of skincare products This period has seen a lot of irritation to even already used products. Cut back on leave on salicylic acid, after shave etc. 5) Make use of the right mask. Select one that fits comfortably, soft, has two layers of fabric. It can help reduce skin problems and reduce skin irritation when it's not too tight. 6) Take breaks every 4hours. This majorly concerns Healthcare workers. Try and remove your face masks at safe places during the day for about 15mins. It can help save the skin. 7) See a dermatologist. It is important to stick to your dermatology appointment. It can help keep the condition well controlled.
