Foods That Can Cause Acne

Several recent research shows that diet can play a role in acne development especially in acne prone individuals. It is probably not necessary to completely avoid all the foods that have been linked to acne but rather consume them in balance with the other nutrient-dense foods discussed above There are some foods that can cause acne. 1) Diary products: studies done have found a link between milk or diary products and acne development especially in teenagers. These studies are however not so clear. The cause and effect relationship is very uncertain. 2) Refined grains and sugar: consumption of more refined carbohydrates has led to people developing acne when compared to people that do not. Foods such as bread, pasta, soda, rice etc. The study links carbohydrates to increased insulin levels that get into the cells and makes androgen hormones more active. More research is still needed to back this theory. 3) Fast food: An increase in the intake of Western style diet is associated with acne. Fast food such as burger, hotdogs, French fries etc may increase the risk. It may alter hormone levels. 4) Chocolate: chocolate is probably an acne trigger. Some surveys have linked eating chocolate with an increased risk of breaking out. The exact mechanism of action is still unclear. 5) Foods rich in omega-6: Certain diets that contain large quantities of omega-6 fatty acid have been linked to more inflammation and acne production. Subsequently food low in omega-3 is also suspected to cause acne. 6)Whey protein powder: This is a dietary supplement. It is quite a rich source of amino acid and can stimulate an increased production of insulin which is linked acne development. More research however is needed. 7) Food you are sensitive to: sensitivity to food occur when your immune system mistakenly identifies food as a threat.
